A place is more than just a dot on the map. It is a living collection of stories, people, nature, and history. The Siel fan Súdwest is not tangible, but it is felt – in the atmosphere of a town, the way people greet each other, the colors of the landscape, the lines of the water, and the power of the land we stand on.

To explore this soul, nine artists will each spend two weeks at a museum in Súdwest-Fryslân. They will draw inspiration from the surroundings, the stories of residents, nature, and traditions of the region. Their experiences will be transformed into artworks that reflect the identity of this area.

These works will be displayed in or near the nine museums and will feature a wide range of art forms – from textiles and ceramics to sculptures, installations, photography, and video. Each piece offers a unique perspective on the question: Does something like the Siel fan Súdwest exist?

From May 17 to August 24, 2025. Nine museums present artworks created by artists inspired by the people, landscapes, and stories of Súdwest-Fryslân.  Each museum showcases an artwork that reflects the soul of the region in its own way – from textiles and ceramics to video installations and photography.
