First Update on Siel fan Súdwest

The search for the soul of Súdwest-Fryslân is in full swing. Nine artists are immersing themselves in the stories, landscapes, and people of the region. They are drawing inspiration from their experiences and transforming it into artworks that will be on display in or near the museums from May 17, 2025.

The first weeks of the residencies have passed – and so much has already happened! Three artists have now returned home with sketchbooks full of ideas and minds filled with impressions.

Caroline Penris (Modelspoor Museum) traveled by train between Sneek and Stavoren, exploring how people experience the landscape.

Heleen Langkamp (Museum De Tiid) investigated the influence of time – from historical building techniques and manuscripts to the movement of water.

Ernest Bessems (Warkums Erfskip/Jopie Huisman Museum) was captivated by mythology and archaeology in Workum, with a special interest in traditional ceramics and the drawings of Jopie Huisman.

For these artists, the next phase now begins: turning their experiences into art. We can’t wait to see how Siel fan Súdwest takes shape!

Later this week, our dedicated project page will go live. There, we will introduce all the artists and share regular updates on their work. Stay tuned!
